Contemplative Outreach of West Tennessee was begun in 2001 as a Chapter of Contemplative Outreach, Ltd., which was founded in 1984 by Fr. Thomas Keating as an ecumenical network of faith communities committed to the process and transmission of Christian transformation. Centering Prayer is the method by which this process is initiated and sustained.

Centering Prayer is a method designed to facilitate the development of contemplative prayer by consenting to God's presence and action within. It is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer; it simply puts other kinds of prayer into a new and fuller perspective. During the time of prayer we seek to be open to God's presence and action within and at other times our attention moves outward to discover God's presence everywhere.

FIRST SATURDAYS – CENTERING PRAYER

Do you seek the still, small voice of God? This quiet morning, mini-retreat, is held each 1st Saturday of every month and will help you know the God within and hear with the ear of the heart.

All are invited to gather in the Quilling Chapel at Church of the Holy Communion the 1st Saturday of each month.  Church of the Holy Communion is located at 4645 Walnut Grove Road, Memphis, TN 38117.  See their website for directions www.holycommunion.org

Our mornings follow this general format:

9:00 – 9:30 a.m. – Coffee and donuts
9:30 – 10:20 a.m. – Two 20 minute sessions of Centering Prayer with contemplative walk
10:20 – 10:40 a.m. SILENT coffee break
10:40 – 1100 a.m. – A session of Lectio Divina (Praying the Scriptures) with Sunday's gospel reading
11:00 – 11:10 a.m. – Gospel reading and dismissal

Persons may participate in the entire morning or come for just a session of 20 minutes Centering Prayer.  Participation is free and all are invited. There is instruction available for one-on-one for those individuals who are new to the practice or want a refresher.  There is also an opportunity to walk the Labyrinth in the Parish Hall.
